MERRIN HARGER

I was born and educated in New Zealand and attended Elam School of Fine Arts at The University of Auckland and I specialised in painting.  In 2006  I relocated to the United Kingdom and my art was challenged by new terrain and unfamiliar landscapes of a country  far more intensively worked and inhabited since ancient times. I returned to New Zealand in 2020 and now live in Greytown and continue to paint. The experience of these two countries continues  to inspire and influence my art work.

Landscapes and Seascapes are my favourite subjects to paint and oil on canvas is my medium of choice.  The pigments of oil paints are strong and intense allowing for a wide range of tonal quality.  My style is recognisable as not being purely representative. The paintings are characterised by richly luminous, intermingling colours and textures, drama of perspective and depth of view, mountains and coastline.
